Tank’ Davis Knocks Out Martin in the 8th Round to Retain WBA Lightweight Title
Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis delivered a powerful right and two lefts to Frank Martin’s face, sending the Indianapolis fighter to the canvas for his first career loss after an 18-fight winning streak. Davis, known for his ferocious punching power, improved his record to 30–0, with all but two victories coming by knockout.
This fight further cemented Davis, a native and resident of Baltimore, as one of boxing’s top pound-for-pound fighters. His dominance was expected, with Davis entering the bout as a 7–1 favorite according to BetMGM Sportsbook.
The match between the two 29-year-olds headlined the 100th championship fight night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, a venue now secondary to T-Mobile Arena as Las Vegas’ premier combat sports location. The event featured four title fights, including the interim WBC light heavyweight championship, which David Benavidez won by unanimous decision over Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
Despite the multiple title fights, Davis and Martin were undoubtedly the main attractions. Their heated banter during the Wednesday press conference culminated in a playful moment when Davis pretended to take a swing at Martin during the traditional post-conference pose, causing Martin to flinch and Davis to leave the podium laughing.
